Designed by Joshua Darden, Freight Big and Freight Display are titling additions to the three Text, Sans and Micro cuts released earlier this year.
Freight is the fruit of Darden's seven-year effort to unify Johann Michael Fleischmann and Stanley Morison's signature text types and display the Dutch traits of "economy, glister and crunch" via a range of weights and morphologies.
Freight Big is designed for magazine and newspaper section heads, large headlines and book covers. As its name would indicate, this is meant to be set large, at which point the hairline strokes can best contrast with the overall weight of the characters. Freight Big Black is shown below.

Freight Display can also be used for headlines, as well as subheads and running heads, with its warm proportions and a large lowercase making for easy reading. Each series provides an extensive character set that includes old style and tabular figures in light, book, medium, bold and black weights. Freight Display Light is shown below.

Faces in the Freight series can be purchased on the GarageFonts and Phil's Fonts sites. |
