Purging Bloat to Fashion Sleek Software - New York Times
David Pogue's review of the forthcoming Microsoft Office 2007. So they've trimmed some of the bloat, which is good; but Pogue notes there are still several frustrating aspects of rigid inflexibility. And since it introduces a new, incompatible file format for documents, I suspect many business organizations will be VERY slow to change -- which means I may not be forced to upgrade for a while. Meanwhile, small, slim, Web-based word processors may well be the way of the future; and I'm REALLY looking forward to the next version of Apple's "Pages," in the forthcoming iWork '07.
