Waldemar Januszczak in fine grumpy form on the War Museum's Bond show, although he takes a while to warm up. I don't entirely agree with his conclusion, but I'm rarely bothered about many of the for-pay exhibitions.

  2. Visit Capitalist Stalinism: Monocle on Terminal 5 | Click opera Capitalist Stalinism: Monocle on Terminal 5 | Click opera

An interesting counterpoint to Dan Hill's much-linked piece on Monocle, pointing out how badly their advertorial can go wrong.

  3. Visit Discussing Video? | Flickr Ideas Discussing Video? | Flickr Ideas

In reply to the "who asked for video?" comment that seems a standard part of the "no to video" rhetoric, here's people wanting video on Flickr. In 2004. Before I'd posted a photo, and most of the commenters had even joined.

I've been wondering if Simon Wardley would comment on App Engine, and he does. His comments on the SDK match what Tom and I have said: you can deploy to your own colo from the SDK. There's your exit strategy. (You do lose single sign on.)

"Amazon's services were like a breath of fresh air while so far, Google's has filled me a dread I dare not name." Michal Migurski compares the tabula rasa of EWS with Google's App Engine. Interesting.

A good overview of Google's App Engine from Brady Forrest at O'Reilly.

It's this sort of thing that persuades me I'm right to reject tabbed interfaces. (Yes, even now, when Terminal has tabs, I don't use them. Not on the Mac, anyway. Windows is another matter.)

  8. Visit Architecture | House of Lords debates Architecture | House of Lords debates

A debate on "encouraging high-quality architecture in the United Kingdom" (as BBC Parliament, where I found it, put it), including Richard Rogers (about halfway down).

Maybe it's a weekend away from London, but the idea that a bunch of web 2.0 poseurs can not only resist the juggernaut of world recession but, instead, revolutionise the economy (and of course get rich) strikes me as archetypal bubble thinking.

  10. Visit Acid Redux | Eric's Archived Thoughts Acid Redux | Eric's Archived Thoughts

"What’s really needed right now is exhaustive test suites for specifications– XHTML, CSS, DOM, SVG, you name it. We’ve been seeing more of these emerge recently, but they’re not enough."
