"The 'small world theory,' embodied in the old saw that there are just 'six degrees of separation' between any two strangers on Earth, has been largely corroborated by a massive study of electronic communication. With records of 30 billion electronic conversations among 180 million people from around the world, researchers have concluded that any two people on average are distanced by just 6.6 degrees of separation, meaning that they could be linked by a string of seven or fewer acquaintances."

Intel puts together a Social Media Advisory Board. I'll be interested to hear what comes out of this. I absolutely give them bonus points for doing this, but looking at who they've invited, I have to wonder if they're just looking for free consulting.

"This study revisits the Inc. 500 approximately one year later (using the 2007 list) in the first longitudinal study on corporate use of these new technologies. Given that previous research now shows that just 11.6% of the Fortune 500 currently having a public blog, it is astounding to see that 39% of the Inc. 500 are blogging. The addition of 3.6% more Fortune 500 companies to the blogosphere pales in comparison to the addition of 20% more of the Inc. 500 companies after the same time period."

"There was no sales pitch. There was no "hard sell." There was just a guy we were convinced couldn't understand half the dialogue he was having with his customers. And he was closing sale after sale after sale."

Good read from Rohit about thinking twice about the picture you're painting about your professional activities. A bit counter-intuitive to hear from social media people, but not so much for smart business professionals. Leaving breadcrumbs back to the homestead paints just as much of a picture as a clearly drawn map.
