The Ma.gnolia Blog
Where the Ma.gnolia community meets to discuss social bookmarking and online life.
The Open Road Ahead
Today at Gnomedex in Seattle, we’re kicking off a project bigger than any we’ve taken on since starting Ma.gnolia. It’s brighter than a snazzy feature, and more than a social bookmarking service. It’s going to define where Ma.gnolia is heading, in a way that makes room at the table for everyone.

An Email Address Is A Person, Too?
One of the biggest ongoing issues with OpenID is usability to the general public. Most people just don’t identify themselves with a URL the same way they do with their email address. For as long as I’ve been aware of OpenID, there’s been an ongoing discussion about how to bridge this gap and let people use their email address as their OpenID.
Some of our members may recall the following tweet from a couple of weeks ago:
What was this about?

Welcome, New Linkers
Every so often we take a look at some of the new people in the Ma.gnolia community in the past few months, and try to spot some good people for the Featured Linker space. We look for people with diverse interests, who we find interesting to follow and think you might as well. Some are geeky, some are the farthest thing from it, some are in-between, but they’re all interesting in their own right, and they’re all close by in our corner of the interwebs.
We’d like to introduce some of these new people now:
Alex Hillman (dangerouslyawesome)
Henriette Weber Kristiansen (redsoda)
And, as always, we hope that if you know someone who you think would make a good Featured Linker, that you’ll let us know.

AideRSS and Ma.gnolia: Helping RSS Help You
One of the reasons behind starting Ma.gnolia was to make it easier for people to extract the best of the web from the rest. By saving a link we also tell others who follow our links about something we think is interesting. As the web grows, content grows, and while social solutions to the problem of information overload are helping, the software has to keep evolving to keep up.
AideRSS has been working on making evolution happen at the RSS feed level, and today they’ve announced their PostRank technology. PostRank draws from a number of sources to help feed readers tune into what content others find engaging. We’re very happy to say that PostRank is now following live updates to public bookmarks saved by the Ma.gnolia community, using that information to identify the stuff worth reading.
A big congratulations must go out to the AideRSS team, which hails from my old stomping ground of Waterloo, Ontario. If you haven’t looked at what they have to offer, and consider feeds a major piece of your online toolkit, you’ll want to look into what they’ve got going on.
