There is no doubt that sustainability has to be achieved for the masses. In order for this world to become sustainable, people of all places and income levels need to have the option of sustainability available to them and that means big box stores need to largely get involved. Quite a few times now we have talk about Wal-Mart and their “green” efforts, but today I bear news about another big box store, Target.
The big problem with sustainable and truly eco-friendly products is that the companies are too small to have a chain of stores and availability of the product suffers. The only easily accessible way to get the product is via the internet, where allot of people are still hesitant to use. This is easily understood as trying out new products, let alone new eco-friendly products made with different materials, is hard to commit to when you can’t touch, try on, and compare the products. So this is where big box stores can come in and help these eco-friendly products be accepted by the masses. Target has announced that they will be putting their name into the hat of major companies starting to help with the environment. Via a big name designer, clothes made from organic cotton, hemp, bamboo, etc. Target is making a move. All details are not yet fully available but it’s good to see another company hopping on board. The question is, how far are they going to take it? Is target going to set and achieve goals or are they just presenting the image of care for the environment and not really changing anything? Keep it Green,
