Quick guide to XHTML [Anne’s Weblog]
Anne van Kesteren on why you should use HTML instead of XHTML unless you are going to serve the latter with the application/xhtml+xml MIME type (as recommended by the W3C)—and even then it's only particularly useful for mixing in other XML namespaces, like MathML and SVG. Mark Pilgrim, linked here, has made a similar argument. Like the Pilgrim article, this one's an oldie but a goodie.
